Njeru, Jinja
Uganda is known as "The Pearl of Africa" but visit and you will quickly realize that is the people of this beautiful country that are the true treasure.
Friends for Hope focuses directly on the neighborhood village of Njeru in the city of Jinja. There is plenty of tourism in Jinja because of it's location to the source of the Nile but that money does not make it to most of the villagers.
FFH Community
Friends for Hope has made the village families of the small community of Njeru, Jinja the focus of it's mission. Most of our staff grew up in the area and live there now with their families. The most vulnerable live in the areas that the government has deemed uninhabitable due to the dangers of major high voltage power lines. This creates a bit of a loophole, its not legal but the officials don't go out of their way to run them off either. People will set up huts and shacks with whatever they can find, clean water is not available, food is scarce, and dangers and diseases abound.
